Greg is one of the most forward thinking leaders I’ve met. What was meant to be a 15 min customer interview turned into an hour and half of fascinating conversation. Greg has implemented a holacracy structure in his business which is a decentralised decision making structure, very different to the traditional hierarchy and one which recognises the value of self-managing teams. I also got to read his employee handbook, which so accurately reflects a modern business culture — I think he should publish it!

Bob Pallace, my mentor. He listened a lot, he counseled wisely, and he treated me fairly.
What are your top 3 tips for being a better leader?
1. Recognize that leading is all about being a coach and being a supporter of your staff, not a boss. 2. Catch people doing things right, then complement them publicly (and correct them privately). 3. Don’t ever try to steal the spotlight. Leaders are only successful if their staff succeed. So give them credit for their hard work and achievements.
What conventional corporate wisdom no longer applies in today’s workplace?
Smart people don’t need managers or bosses. They need leaders that give them room to grow, learn and achieve results in the best way possible. Like plants in pots, if you give them a bigger pot, they’ll grow.
